JavaSpeed Spooky Ride 2004

The trip down...

I met up with Eric at Target on
Thursday afternoon and we rode our scooters
on down to Grafton where we met up with
Dharia at the Post Office Pub lot.
The three of us (2 Vespa ET2's and a
Mojito Custom 150) headed down 122 South
to Providence for the JavaSpeed
Spooky Ride at 7pm.

The color of the leaves and the orangey-red
sunset as we careened down 122 (getting lost
once just because of poor signage on 122) were
absolutely beautiful. We made it down there
in a little more than an hour.

The Spooky Ride got started on time
at 7-ish and about 20 scooters were given a
modiffied "speech / disclaimer" at the beginning
of the ride - this was to be a not-quite-so-
typical Wednesday night ride, in that we'd be
riding on roads scooters had never touched,
in areas totally not expecting a "gang" of
scooters to be converging on. We were advised
to be even MORE careful of the person in FRONT
of us and to NOT ride side by side at some points
because the roads would be windy and narrow.

Tower Hill Road was AMAZING! We rode at near
breakneck speeds, single file, on this uphill,
winding, scary road where you really had to be
on your toes, watching both the road AND the
tail lights of the scooter in front of you.
VERY FUN! Then we all silenty rode to an overgrown
graveyard, completely moonlit by a full moon
(eclipsing for real at around 9:45 PM) and totally
perfect for this cold late October spooky ride...

Even the scooters were scared

Dharia, Eric & I took 122 back home in the
freezing cold, stopping only once for a bathroom
break and a cell phone call (check on the Red Sox
World Series score - last game). It was freezing cold
and a crazy idea to drive an hour south in these
kind of temps for a scooter ride, but was SO worth it!
(I even rode to work today, same cold temps, but
I'm addicted to seeing how far into the season I
can push this scooter riding fun...)

Special thanks to Pattio & Chris from
JavaSpeed, and everyone else who put up
with me blinding them with my camera in the graveyard.
And great job to Dharia and Eric for toughing it out
and making the trip down to Providence for an event
I'm sure I'm going to do NEXT year...

Pattio from JavaSpeed:

Subject:  O how the Scooting was Spooky

Thanks everyone for coming out and making the second
annual Spooky Scoot a spine-tingling success! I was
really suprised at the turnout, and the weather and
lunar spectacle couldn't have been better. Special
thanks to Dmitry for another batch of spookalicious t-shirts.

Some of the residents on those rural roads may have
been a little puzzled to see 20 headlights buzzing by,
but chances are they were glued to their tv sets like
everyone else in New England! We scooted the narrowest,
most secluded roads I could string together, with dark
shadows, blowing leaves, moonlit fields, stone walls,
overhanging branches, single lane bridges, rollercoaster
whoops, while overhead the full moon looked like some
monster was taking a bite of it...

I think I sprained my smile muscles!

Can't wait to do it again next year.
