WOTAPALAVA MOVES TO NEXT YEAR

New York, NY (July 2, 2001) - The Pet Shop Boys and CAA regret to
announce the postponement to next year of this summer's Wotapalava
tour, which was due to visit 18 markets this July and August.

The original line-up for the largest openly gay touring festival was to
include Pet Shop Boys, Sinead O'Connor, Soft Cell, The Magnetic Fields
and Rufus Wainwright, as well as DJs Junior Vasquez and Danny
Tenaglia. However, the last minute withdrawal of Sinead O'Connor and
the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement with such short notice have
led the producers to believe that it would be unwise to proceed with the
tour this summer.

'This has been a difficult decision to make as the idea of Wotapalava
being the largest gay-friendly tour has attracted much enthusiasm and
interest, and so much work as already gone into its organization,' said
CAA Department Head of Music Rob Light. 'We are already making
preparations to ensure that Wotapalava will become a reality next year.'

Pet Shop Boys and CAA wish to apologize to those who have already
purchased tickets and to thank those who have put so much effort into
Wotapalava. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

'We have made this decision with the greatest of reluctance,' commented
Pet Shop Boy/Wotapalava creator Neil Tennant, 'but it seems impossible
to proceed without a complete line-up of artists. We look forward to
coming to America next year.'

Thanks, guys. I was really looking forward to this show, even without
Sinead on the bill. In fact, who really cared if she was on the tour?!
The only good things to come out of this stupid cancellation is that now I'm
gonna be refunded the exorbitant ticken prices that I paid to try to go to this
show AND supposedly, the Pet Shop Boys will spend this summer working on
tracks for a new studio album that may (or may not) come out in Spring of 2002.
I wouldn't hold your breath, though. They may get inspired to do another
(time wasting) musical or something.

When I first got word of the cancellation, I posted this lovely question for
Neil & Chris to answer on their happy, isolated little website:

"What was the REAL reason that the Pet Shop Boys have AGAIN disappointed its
Boston fans by cancelling yet another show/tour that was to happen?
(Nightlife show in Boston scheduled then mysteriously UN-scheduled, now WOTAPALOVA)

Surely Sinead's participation could NOT have been the sole reason. Was it REALLY that you
wanted to spend the cash from sales of the DOUBLE-CD re-releases that I bought ALL of
to go record instead???

Very disappointed. Still a fan, but disappointed."

Hopefully I'll get an actual response.

This is kinda funny...

I didn't have internet access all day on Thursday, May 24, 2001
and when I got home to check my e-mail, I had gotten a message from
my brother-in-law Shawn who had gotten a concert listing update in his
e-mail and one of the names that had struck his eye was that the
Pet Shop Boys were to perform at the Bank Boston Pavillion
on July 20, 2001 WITH Sinead O'Connor. Neither group has
a current album to support, but who cares?!

I immediately logged on to Ticketmaster and found dismayingly high priced
tickets for seats... $70 & $50, but I forged ahead and bought two $70
seats in stage left, second section back, row BB, seats 29 & 28 (I think)...
I then called Chantal to let her know that she was going to the
show with me... and after all the raving I did about the Pet Shop Boys
concert in Montreal 1999 and about HOW my friend Fred and I
got the tickets, info, etc., she was excited about going, too...

Oh... one of the kinda geeky cool things that happened as I tried to get
info on the Pet Shop Boys Boston 2001 appearance... I went to
Google.com and typed in "Pet Shop Boys"+tickets+Boston" and my web page (www.dsquared.org)
came up as the 3rd listing... and all the story I had was a gripe about how
the PSB's had supposedly scheduled & then un-scheduled a Boston
appearance on their Nightlife tour in 1999. Funny, huh?

Here... try it yourself and see if you see what I saw...
