I'm nuts about the Pet Shop Boys. I think it started back when I first bought their singles collection called "Discography". So when I found out that they would be doing a U.S. tour in support of their new CD "Nightlife" (due out November 2, 1999, review forthcoming), I went bananas trying to get information about where, when, how much, etc etc. ("Where, when, why, what... how much do you got? Have you got it together? If so, how often? Which do you choose, the hard or soft option" - West End Girls) The following is an account of how the "geek posse" got to see the Pet Shop Boys perform live in Montreal, Canada.

The real frenzy started on the night of Saturday, October 23, when I found out from my friend Andrew that there was no longer any mention of a Boston PSB show on any of the online info resources he regularly checked. That on top of the fact that the venue in Boston, Avalon, had already scheduled another act to perform on the night the PSB's were slated, made it even more obvious that the PSB's were skippin over Boston entirely. Bastards....

So a plan had to be initiated. I spent alot of time online trying to get info on the Nov. 14th, Sunday show in Montreal, Canada at the Metropolis on Rue Ste. Catherine. Finally, I got a reference to the Metropolis, found their phone number, confirmed that the PSB's were indeed performing there on that date and I then got ticket price info & availability. This all transpired on Tuesday, the 26th. That Tuesday night, after a quick conderence with Andrew and Fred, Fred and I decided that we were a million percent GO on doing the Montreal show. He bought 2 tickets that night. The next morning I booked a room at the Hotel Travelodge for 4 people, anticipating that Andrew might bring a friend with him, if he did decide to go on this trek.

Now it's all a waiting game. I write this on Thursday the 28th. Fred's driving us up to Montreal on Saturday, Nov. 13th. That night we'll probably hit the clubs... hopefully SONA on Rue Bleury for some kickin' techno... Maybe some shopping... Sunday night is the show at Metropolis. Then we return on Monday the 15th. And for the time being, Fred is waiting for the tickets to arrive in the mail.

Saturday the 30th... Fred has somehow already received the actual Pet Shop Boys concert tickets in the mail! The room at the Travelodge is reserved. We have room for four and now we're just biding our time to drive on up to Canada...

Tuesday the 3th, the new CD "Nightlife" is NOW here.... I picked up a domestic release for both Fred and myself... Wednesday the 4th, I contacted the HMV I used to work at in Marlboro and reserved an import version of "Nightlife" that will hopefully have extra goodies in it... I'll be picking that up tomorrow...

Found a review online of the opening "Nightlife" tour performance in Miami...

As Fred and I wrestle out the details of WHEN we're leaving Massachusetts for Montreal on this coming Saturday, I've been visiting the Pet Shop Boys official web page. As much as I hate to be negative about the PSB's, their web site is slow slow slow. Maybe it's because all the plug-ins that it suggests your browser have loaded, or maybe it's just because it's so damn good looking. I found absolutely NO mention of a Boston show, a cancelled Boston show or anything... the cover-up continues... BUT on a positive note, there was ALOT of info to read on about the PSB's. On the main page, one could vote for their favorite song off the new Nightlife cd. I voted for "For Your Own Good" only to find that not alot of people agreed with me. I also found out info about their fan club and the official magazine called Literally.

From the chart I stole off the PSB web page, people have gone gaga over "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk".
"For Your Own Good" came in at fourth from the bottom. Whatever.
Just for the record, I got this chart on Thursday, November 11.

Okay. It's agreed. Fred and I are departing from Massachusetts at 10 AM on Saturday morning (tomorrow). Tickets are burning holes in our pockets. The hotel reservation has been made. All we hafta do now is pack, gas up the Fred-mobile and high-tail it on up there....
