H.E.R.O. that I wrote for this guy in England's Atari website...

Dig Dug Has
Arrived!!!!

On Saturday the 21st of
January, 2000, the great
Dig Dug arcade game move
took place. With the help of
Chantal, Chantal's father
Jimmy and my brother-in-
law Shawn, the four of us
moved the full-size arcade
game from the RG Shakour,
Inc. warehouse to the
House of DougÆ...

Many different factors made
this move miraculous that it
even was successfully
completed, such as the sheer
weight of the game, the slipperi-
ness of the front steps,
the narrow stairs and NUMBER
of stairs and angles that Shawn,
Chantal and I had to manoever
around...

I found this graphic while at the web page of
Computing Direct.

As part of the Stamps of the Decades series
of U.S. postage stamps, there's actually
a 33¢ US stamp depicting kids playing the
classic Atari 2600 videogame, Defender
as part of the 1980's collection.

I'm just kinda stunned that it's not Pac-Man
or Donkey Kong or something not quite so
quasi-obscure.

Now at the House of Doug...
Dig Dug!!!

Oh my god... While loking for screenshots of a
game called Bump'n'Jump, I stumbled across
a web page selling classic stand-up arcade games.
I found a Dig Dug game for sale for $495 ($60
crating fee, about $100 shipping) and I went nuts!
I've always wanted a Dig Dug game in my possession,
not only because of the similarity in my name and
the game's name, but because it was such a fun game
to play. This little miner guy, Dig Dug, tunnels through
the earth, eradicating weird little enemies by inflating
them with his pump until they explode. There are all
kinds of enemies, some are fairly benign (but you still
hafta destroy them), some breathe fire... You can also
tunnel under rocks, quickly move away, then drop the
rock on your unsuspecting enemies.
I tellya, the game is a hoot...

So, I'm paying Blast From the Past Amusements
in a couple installments, my Dad is chipping in money
for it, in lieu of a Christmas present and I'm hoping to
have the thing in my kitchen by New Year's Eve.
I guess I can set the machine for Free Play's, but I
think I'm also going to use it to help me save up laundry
quarters... Anyone wanna play some Dig Dug?

Warioland 2

While Christmas shopping, I picked
up a Gameboy game for myself called
Warioland 2. I've always liked the
Mario Brothers themed games and
this one follows the pattern of it's
predecessors perfectly. MANY different
layers, levels, secret mazes, tunnels,
problem solving, mind-numbingly
frustrating challenges AND the game is
a Gameboy Color game, so if and when
I finally get around to adding a Color
Gameboy to my arsenal of handheld
videogames, this baby will be in full color.
AND, another ingenius feature of this
game is that you can save at almost any
point on this game and come back to that
exact spot later, thanks to battery backup.

I had a chance to try the new Color Gameboy while at my sister's house, opening
presents with relatives. This kid had a Color Gameboy with the Pokemon Pinball
game in it. The game itself was what's called a "rumble pack", meaning that,
in addition to the game being in color, you periodically FELT vibrations and such
from the game itself, as the ball bounced against flippers and walls... VERY cool...
I WILL be buying one of these stupid things AFTER the DIG DUG game arrives...

Waste Valuable Time Destroying Cities...

I found this happy little
Mac game while looking
for a Mac version of Elf
Bowling. While not as
inanely stupid as Elf Bowling,
this game is a cute
3-D Monster movie game
where you get to play
one of four menacing
characters and proceed to
destroy everything you see.
Of course, the MAN's
after you (in the form of
tanks, planes, helicopters,
etc.), but you can take 'em
out with yr death ray.
Multi-angle / view play,
lots of little details.

Long Lost Atari Game - Combat 2

Remember Atari? Well those of you who DO, will most likely have
fond memories of having played the cartridge that came with the game
console called Combat. There were many different variations on tank
battle, biplanes shooting at eachother and jet fighters. Although it was
very simple visually & play-wise, it remains one of the ultimate in
two-player games. Well, just recently, a prototype of a game never
thought to have existed has emerged - Combat Two. I have not
played it (but would LOVE to) and all I have seen of it are the visuals
I saw on the Atari Gaming Headquarters page, but it looks like it
could've been fun. They have alot more information at their site...

I'm WAY into Atari games and old video games in general.
Expect more reviews of old Atari games in the future.
In the meantime, check out my personal list of actual atari carts that I own.
(I actually have even MORE games than the list shows, IF you include all
the ROMs I acquired BEFORE the ruling on having to own the
actual cartridge to download the ROM).
