twisted beer monkeys

Okay. It's Friday. I'm at work. It's pounding,
pouring rain outside and I'm a bit panicked
because there's alot of prep-work for this
happy little beer'fest / review session / party
thing that I should've have done days ago
instead of waiting until the last minute...but...

Last night, Cheryl and I went to the liquor
store on Chandler Street in Worcester and
found 5 reasonably priced "weird" imported
singles from all around the world. We got
Almaza from Lebanon, Hoegaarden
from Belgium, Old Nick from somewhere
in the U.K., Saporro from Japan and we
even got a beer from Russia which I can't
remember the name of off the top of my head.

moderately interesting beer links

Michael Jackson's BeerHunter.com
- As Michael Jackson (not THAT Michael
Jackson, but THIS Michael Jackson says in the opening
paragraph of the "World View" section of this great
] website: "The Kalevala, the national epic of Finland,
describes the creation of the world in 200 verses, but
needs 400 in which to explain the origins of beer.
This is no small subject, which is why I've devoted much
of my life learning about beer, the brewers who make it,
the breweries where they work and a variety of beer
cultures. I've got stories to tell you about all of these
subjects and more.

BeerAdvocate.com
- This is a pretty serious website about nothing but beer.
Lots of reviews. On my monitor the type is teeny tiny,
but the sheer VOLUMES of info & opinion make the
squinting worth it.

BeerAdvocate.com Extreme Beer'fest
- Not sure what to make of this quite yet. It's planned
for January 2004. There aren't a whole lot of breweries
listed yet and those that are don't sound especially "extreme"
but what do I know?! This could end up being a great event...
